Serving Every Resident

First and foremost, serving as a county commissioner is not a partisan job. It is a responsibility to every resident, family, business, and community in the county—regardless of political affiliation.
I pledge to serve all citizens in District 1 and throughout Watauga County with honesty, transparency, and strong financial responsibility. County government decisions affect people’s daily lives in direct and meaningful ways, from public safety and emergency services to schools, infrastructure, land use, public health, and the management of taxpayer dollars. These decisions deserve careful consideration, open communication, and a commitment to the long-term well-being of the entire county.
Having attended many county commissioner meetings under both Democratic and Republican leadership, I have seen firsthand that most local decisions are not about party politics. They are about practical questions: What does the county need? What can taxpayers reasonably afford? How can services be delivered effectively? What choices will best serve residents today while protecting the county’s future?
That experience has reinforced my belief that county commissioners should focus on results rather than partisan labels. The people of Watauga County deserve leaders who will listen carefully, examine the facts, ask difficult questions, and work collaboratively to find responsible solutions. While disagreements are a natural part of public service, they should be handled respectfully and with the shared goal of improving our community.
My priority will always be responsible stewardship of taxpayer dollars. Every dollar collected by the county represents someone’s hard work, and public funds must be managed with the same care and discipline that families use in managing their own household budgets. That means supporting clear budgeting practices, demanding accountability, evaluating spending carefully, and making sure county resources are directed toward the services and priorities that matter most.
Transparency is equally important. Residents should be able to understand how decisions are made, why funds are being spent, and what outcomes the county expects to achieve. I believe public officials have an obligation to communicate openly, make information accessible, and remain accountable to the people they serve—not just during an election, but throughout their entire term in office.
District 1 and Watauga County are made up of diverse communities with different needs and perspectives. Effective representation requires listening to all of them. I will work to ensure that residents have a voice in county government and that concerns are considered fairly, whether they come from a rural community, a growing neighborhood, a local business, or a family seeking reliable county services.
The role of a county commissioner is to protect the public trust. That means putting the county’s interests ahead of personal or political agendas, making decisions based on facts and sound judgment, and staying focused on Watauga County's future.
My commitment is simple: to serve every resident with integrity, to promote responsible and transparent government, and to make the best possible use of county finances. By working together and keeping the focus on what unites us, we can build a stronger, more accountable, and more prosperous Watauga County.
