Your Voice, Your Vote, Your Watauga.

RICK WOODS

FOR COUNTY COMMISSIONER

Ready To Serve

MEET THE CANDIDATE

Watauga County has been my home for more than 40 years, and I’ve lived in the newly created District One since 1993. I moved to Boone in 1984 to begin my career as a Certified Registered Nurse Anesthetist and it has been my honor to serve this community both at work and in everyday life. Boone isn’t just where I live - it’s home.

Watauga County has grown and changed since 1984, but our values of hard work, faith, and unity remain strong. I believe our best days are ahead. With thoughtful leadership, we can build an even brighter future for the next generation.

I would be honored to earn your trust, your support, and your vote this November.

Building a Better Watauga Together

MY VISION

Affordable Housing

Since deciding to run for County Commissioner, I’ve listened closely to the people of our district. From long-time residents to App State students and local professionals, I hear the same concern again and again: affordable housing.

When I bought my first home in Watauga County in 1986, I paid $65,000 for a three-bedroom ranch-style house (about 1,400 square feet) on six acres of land. Today, that same home would cost $400,000, or more. It’s easy to see why so many young Americans feel that owning a home is no longer part of the American Dream.

While building housing is not the direct role of a County Commissioner, we can help create the conditions that make affordable housing possible. As your Commissioner, I will work to:

Encourage affordable housing through smart tax incentives

I pledge to push for common-sense policies that create this kind of environment. I believe we can find a real balance between prosperity and protecting our mountains and streams. There is no quick fix, but with steady, thoughtful leadership, affordable housing in Watauga County is achievable.

Protecting Our Heritage

We believe in growth that respects our local history and mountain character. We stand for development that keeps Watauga beautiful while creating enough housing so that long-time residents can remain in their hometowns.

SERVING ALL NEIGHBORS

My Belief

Guided by a commitment to love our neighbors, we strive to serve all Watauga residents through faithful stewardship of our land and resources. We believe that honoring God means protecting our rural heritage and ensuring a flourishing future for every family.
